Help Us Help You – Please Shovel the Fire Hydrants
Jan. 26, 2015

As we all know, during an emergency every second counts. So that volunteer firefighters can better serve the residents of our local communities, we are asking that you please shovel out the fire hydrant closest to your home after each snow storm. If firefighters have to first locate and then shovel out fire hydrants, precious time is wasted and our ability to quickly establish a water supply is greatly reduced. In addition, please ensure that your house number is clearly visible. Many house numbers become obstructed due to high snow banks piled around mailboxes, while house numbers placed close to the ground are often completely covered with snow. Again, a clearly visible house number saves our first responders precious time in locating your home in the event of an emergency. So please help your local volunteers better serve you by shoveling out your nearby fire hydrants and making sure your house number is clearly visible.

Structure Fire Stop on Acken Rd
Jan. 20, 2015

On the afternoon of January 19, 2015, the Liberty Corner Fire Company (Station 40) was dispatched to a working house fire on Acken Road. Upon arrival, Chief Peter Aprahamian established command and confirmed a working fire on the second floor Alpha side which had already vented through the structure. Additional resources were requested including the Lyons VA Fire Department (Station 59) for RIT, the Basking Ridge Fire Company (Station 20) for an Engine Company and a Rehab Unit and a BLS unit from Long Hill Township to assist the Liberty Corner First Aid Squad.

First due 40 Engine 104 was ordered to lay in a five-inch supply line from a nearby hydrant to the front of the structure. The crew was ordered to stretch 2 attack lines, one for an interior attack to the second floor and the other for an exterior attack. A back up line was also ordered inside to protect the staircase to the second floor. Crew members got water on the fire from the exterior while other crew members made entry with the attack line to the second floor. Fire both inside and outside the structure was knocked down quickly. Firefighters from 40 Tower 116 and 40 Engine 102 arrived along with Basking Ridge to assist with extinguishment, salvage, and overhaul. LCFC Deputy Chief Bill Ludlow was assigned Operations Officer while LCFC Assistant Chief Ron Depasquale was assigned to lead the interior crews. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for shortness of breath and released the same day. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Special thanks to all those agencies that assisted us – Liberty Corner Fire Aid Squad, Basking Ridge Fire and First Aid, Lyons VA Fire Department, Bernards Township Police Department, Somerset County Coordinator, Somerset County 911 Communications Center, as well as the Bernardsville Fire Company, Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department, the Millington Fire Company and the Stirling Fire Company for providing standby coverage to Bernards Township during the operation.

Liberty Corner Firefighters Ask Residents
to Clear Snow

Feb. 1, 2014

Liberty Corner Firefighters are asking residents and business
owners to remember to remove snow from around fire hydrants. In the
event of a fire, every second counts; seconds saved from not having to
locate and shovel out buried hydrants may make the difference in
preventing a bad situation from becoming worse.

Firefighters also remind residents to shovel the walkway to
the front door of their homes. While you may not typically use that
door, in the event of a fire in your home, firefighters will most
likely enter through the front door. Keeping walkways, driveways, and
other areas of access around your home clear for emergencies allows
firefighters, EMTs and police officers to do their jobs safely and
effectively.
