Liberty Corner Fire Company Places First in the Stirling Fire Company Annual Bike Race and Takes Home 4 Trophies

On Sunday, July 24, 2016, four members of the Liberty Corner Fire Company participated in the 19th Annual New Jersey Firefighters Bike Race.  Sponsored by the Stirling Volunteer Fire Company, the bike race involves 50 firefighters from New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.   The firefighters compete in a two mile bike race wearing full turnout gear including their helmet, turnout coat, bunker pants, and gloves.  Individual trophies are awarded to the top four finishers and the top female finisher.  The overall trophy is awarded to the fastest fire company team (comprised of four fire company members) measured by the fastest combined times of all four fire company members.

Liberty Corner Fire Company placed first overall with the fastest combined time of its four man team.  Racing for Liberty Corner were Assistant Chief Pete Aprahamian, FF Eric Murphy, FF Michael O’Brien, and FF Ryan Walsh.  Individual trophies were also earned by Liberty Corner firefighters as FF Eric Murphy finished in second place, Assistant Chief Pete Aprahamian finished in third place, and FF Michael O’Brien finished in fourth place.   FF Ryan Walsh helped seal the victory by taking sixth place.  Congratulations of Stirling FF Dawher Castro who finished in first place.

All proceeds from the Stirling Fire Company Annual Bike Race are donated to the Saint Barnabus Burn Center in Livingston, New Jersey – the state’s only burn center.
