Brings Home 5 Trophies from the 9th Annual Firefighter Olympics October 20, 2007
On Saturday, October 20, 2007, the Liberty Corner Fire Company placed first in the Best Team category of the 9th Annual Firefighter Olympics sponsored by the Hillsborough Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2. The event, which is open to all firefighters 18 years of age who have completed Firefighter Level 1 training, is comprised of 5 events. All five events are performed in full turnout gear while breathing air from an SCBA pack. The first event is the high-rise pack carry in which a firefighter must carry 100 feet of 1 3/4" hose to the top of a five story tower. Once at the top, the firefighter must hoist a rope carrying a 45 lb. roll of hose to the top story of the tower. The firefighter then descends down the tower where he uses a 9 lb. shot mallet to drive a 165 lb. steel beam a horizontal distance of 5 feet. The firefighter must then advance 140 feet, where he picks up the nozzle of the 1 3/4" charged hose line and advances it a distance of 75 feet, opens the nozzle and hits a target. The final event is the victim rescue where the firefighter drags a 175 lb. Rescue Randy mannequin a distance of 100 feet.
Award categories for the event included Best Team (average sum of three best individual times from the same fire company), Best Individual, Best Individual Over 40 and Best Tag Team (in which each member of a 5 member team is responsible for one of the five events).
Of the fire companies that participated in the event from throughout the state, Liberty Corner placed first in the Best Team category for the third year in a row. Among the other categories, Liberty Corner firefighters Glenn Hart and Eric Murphy placed second and third respectively in the Best Individual category while Pete Aprahamian placed first in the Best Individual Over 40 category. The Liberty Corner Tag Team, comprised of Pete Aprahamian, Carl Blanchard, Glenn Hart, Mike LaCosta and Eric Murphy, placed third among 8 companies.

Bail Out Training May 20, 2007
On Thursday, May 17 and Sunday, May 20, twenty-four members of Liberty Corner Fire Company participated in a 10 hour training program on the Petzl EXO Personal Safety System. This system and the related training provides firefighters with a means to bail out the window of a building should there be no other means of escape. The funding for the purchase and related training of the Petzl Personal Safety System was made possible by a generous grant from Fireman's Fund.
The members of Liberty Corner Fire Company would like to take this opportunity to thank Fire Ground Technologies who supplied us with the system and the related 10 hours of training as well as Fireman's Fund for providing us with the funding for this life saving equipment.

Mutual Aid - 310 Enclave Ln (The
Hills) Bedminster April
09 , 2007
At 10:13 PM on April 09, the members of LCFC were requested to respond Mutual Aid to a structure fire, at 310 Enclave Ln. in the Bedminster section of the Hills to assist Station 29, Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department. Upon arrival heavy fire was showing in both adjoining duplex units, and impinging on the side and rear adjacent units. A few small fires flared up near adjacent building caused by the sparks from the fire. These were quickly controlled and did not extend to any additional structures. LCFC was deployed to provide a Firefighter Assist and Search Team and operational support. Due to the heavy fire damage, evacuated and unoccupied structures and the partial collapse of the light-weight construction, fire operations were defensive and the exterior attack quickly brought the blaze under control. Crews spent several hours working on overhaul checking for hot spots.

July 4th Parade March
1, 2007
This year, America’s July 4 Independence Day celebration will be even more memorable as one of our local, all-volunteer fire and rescue companies travels to Washington, DC to march in America’s 2007 Independence Day Parade.
The Liberty Corner Fire Company of Bernards Township has been extended the privilege of participating in the parade, which starts at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street in the nation’s Capitol, travels along the National Mall, and ends at the Washington Monument.
The Parade, which annually draws a street audience of over 300,000 spectators, consists of invited bands, military and specialty units, floats, and VIPs. Liberty Corner will be one of only 20 specialty units invited from all over the US to particpate in the parade.
Chief Marc Friedman stated, “It is a true honor for us to participate in this year’s parade, especially since we are an all volunteer fire company. Other units in the parade consist of 18-20 marching bands (including fife and drum corps), 15 floats, and 15 celebrity participants (broadcast and recording artists, local and national dignitaries and officials).
This will be a three-day event for the Fire Company; members will travel to the D.C. area the day before to clean and prepare the apparatus for the parade.
The equipment will be stored at nearby fire stations in Silver Spring, Maryland. Two apparatus,: a Seagrave Pumper and a Pierce Rescue Truck, along with an honor guard and approximately 20 members will particpate in the parade.
